District 16 V.F.D. established an EMS service in July of 2002. Up unitl then, the department ran Fire calls and EMS assist calls only and Cumberland Fire Department provided ambulance service.
The formation of the service was sudden and couldn't have been accomplished with the help of our neighboring companies. We currently operate with a staffing of 1 Paramedic, 2 CRT-I's, 5 active EMT-B's and between 5-10 active drivers to serve over 3,000 residents and numerous commercial buildings. The EMS service averages 200-300 calls per year. Most of the EMS personnel are cross-trained for Firefighting and EMS. We also operate with assistance from the Allegany County Eastern EMS chase vehicle. This small group of dedicated providers keeps this ambulance running 24/7. This is a huge task which is why we are always looking for fresh faces to help out.
Original Paramedic 347, July 2002 - 2003. Loaned to us by Flintstone V.F.D. Remained in service at Company 7 for 6 months and was later retired by Flintstone.

Paramedic 347, 2003 - 2005. This was the 1st ambulance purchased by District 16. It was a 1996 type 3 Ford E-350 with a Horton box. The unit was purchased from Tri-Towns EMS. The unit served the company well for 2 years until the ambulance that we currently use was bought. This unit was donated to the goverment for military use after it's service with Company7.

Paramedic 347, 2005 - present. This unit is a 1998 Type 3 Ford E-350 with a Horton box. The ambulance is fully ALS equipped and is in it's 4th year of service with the department. It's compliment of equipment includes a biphasic LP 12 monitor/defibrilator, fiber optic intubation equipment, and the EZ-IO intraosseous drill in the near future. It currently has nearly 100,000 miles on it so we are in the process of moving on to a new unit.
